Types of Ceremony
YIW offers you the possibility of having a lawful civil wedding, a lawful religious wedding or a ceremony with a symbolic value in Italy. Discover all the ceremonies that the YIW Team is able to organise below.
Civil Ceremony
In order for the Bride&Groom to have a wedding with civil validity, your wedding must be:
 |
- |
officiated in the city’s town hall; |
 |
- |
officiated in Italian by the Mayor or a Civil State official and translated into another language; |
 |
- |
officiated in the presence of two witnesses of your choice. |
Also see the section: "Legal Requirements".
Religious Ceremony
Catholic
In order for the Bride&Groom to have a valid religious wedding according to the Catholic faith, it is necessary to do the following:
 |
- |
prepare the necessary Catholic documentation (marriage preparation course, banns, sworn state-ment by the local diocese and certificates of non-impediment of the bride and groom etc.); |
 |
- |
have a celebrant that is a Minister of the Catholic faith; |
 |
- |
book a consecrated Catholic church. |
As a Catholic couple, you can request to participate in an Audience with the Pope dedicated to newlywed couples and/or request for a special gift for your wedding: the Apostolic Blessing written by the Pope.
For other religious ceremonies
It is possible for the Bride&Groom to have a valid religious wedding according to the Protestant, Jewish, Orthodox or other faiths. In this case, the following are necessary:
a representative and celebrant of your religious faith;
in these instances, it is generally possible to choose a sacred location (church, synagogue) or to get married in a garden, castle, church or at the same location as the reception.
Symbolic Ceremony
Couples that have already had a civil or religious wedding in their own country or those who are only interested in a symbolic ceremony can come to Italy for a symbolic ceremony without the requirement of legal or religious documentation, therefore avoiding a fee for the town hall or houses of faith, and they can marry anywhere.
Other Ceremonies and Private Parties
YIW also organises other ceremonies and private parties, for example:
 |
- |
Engagement parties; |
 |
- |
Hen and stag parties; |
 |

 |
- |

 |

Shopping weekends. |
According to the ceremony that you have both chosen, YIW will:
 |
- |
recommend elegant, old and charming palaces and municipal rooms for a civil ceremony; |
 |
- |
secure an interpreter that will translate the ceremony into your language; |
 |
- |
recommend and book old, atmospheric and aristocratic Catholic churches or other houses of faith; |
 |
- |
contact and book a celebrant; |
 |
- |
request participation at an Audience with the Pope for the Bride&Groom; |
